This is a very sad and shocking movie told by a child in order to show how his father was. In my opinion, it is a quite complicated film which make the spectator to pay attention to it all the time. The use of mise-en-scène is magnificient, especially regarding the presence of shadows and darkness. Editing is also important, since the time when the actions happen is not chronological at all.
Excellent use of flashbacks in order to understand the feelings and thoughts of the protagonist, Ben (Will Smith), whose only aim in life is to help other people. But this help is due to something that can be known through the different flashbacks.
Objects are also very important in this movie and the mystery which exists around some of them. Therefore, the offscreen is very important and relevant for this movie.
It starts at the end. That is, the first scene is the last one but incomplete, and the rest of the movie (a constant flashback and also falshbacks inside the main flashback) is the explanation of this end.

I don't like this movie very much. I think it's interesting because, in some way, it shows the problems and battles occurred in the New World (i.e. U.S.) between those who settled there and those who were living there before, that is the Indians. However, I usually find this kind of movies boring. Yet, in my opinion it's interesting for those who want to expand their knowledge about the history of America, or for those who have to study this history, as in my case.
Beyond the quarrels between the Indians and the colonizers, there are two love stories. The successful one is between the protagonist Nathaniel Poe (Daniel Day-Lewis), who is a middle-Indiand adopted by the tribe of the Mohicans, and the oldest daughter, Cora Munro (Madeleine Stowe) of a British important man. It is the successful one because at the end they are availabe to love each other. The sencond couple is composed by Uncas (Eric Schweig) and Alice Munro (Jodhi May). But, they don't have as luck as the others.

Several battles take place in the movie and finally just one mohican keeps alive: the last of the mohicans.

The detective David Mills (Brad Pitt) arrives to a city in order to substitute the detective Somerset (Morgan Freeman) who is nearly to be retaired. Both Mills and Somerset have to solve the crimes made by a dangerous and psychopath murderer who acts regarding the seven deadly sins: greed, avarice, pride, lust, sloth, envy and finally wrath. But, what nobody could think is which is the end of this movie.
In my opinon, it is very well thought and connected from the beginning until the end. Besides, being in a psycho-killer mind is not an easy work. I am fascinated, surprised and very happy with this movie because it is really fascinating and really well done. I could not believe what my eyes were seeing at the end, but I think (though it is hard) it is the best possible end, with not doubts. A good movie deserves a good end.
If I could give a mark from 1 to 10, the punctuation would be a 9. Therefore, I strongly recommend you to see this movie. You won't regret.
It is quite weird because there are many changes of time to the past (in some moments it is possible to feel lost because it is possible not to know if the moments happen after or before). On the other hand, there are several shots where it is possible to see the symetry between the two main characters, especially through the elements of the mise-en-scène. I do not why, probably because they are spies or something similar, I have identified this film with one played by Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt (Mr and Mrs Smith). The relationship is quite similar between the two main characters who finally are lied. And this makes me to think in the so-called statement of not doing to anyone those things you don't want anyone do against you.
This is a movie played by Elizabeth Taylor and Paul Newman. It is a very famous movie and very popular in the late 50s and the early 60s. It is the story of a family that live surrounded of lies and avarices. At the end, the lies are "discovered" and everybody gets what they deserve to: "There is a time and a place for everything", which in Spanish can be translated as "El tiempo pone a cada uno en su lugar".
How can the elements of framing be important in just one scene, in just one shot? For instance by showing the distances betwen characters. In this movie, this aspect is very relevant. Distance helps to show not only the characters' expressions and desires but also the rift opened up between them. Moreover, other elements such as the point of view or perspective and the offscreen elements, are important in the understanding of this movie. The offscreen is very interesting since the spectator is expected to speculate about some offscreen elements like why Brick (Paul Newman) does not love Maggiee (Elisabeth Taylor) if they're supposedly married.
A writer of horror books decides to rest during one night in the so-called 1408 room of a hotel of New York. There, he passes a terrific night that makes him to remember and live again his worst moments of the past.
The movie is cloaked in mystery thanks to the darkness and also the sounds. The presence of the offscreen is important during all the movie, more important than the onscreen since the spectator is all the time wondering: what's going on? why? how? and so on. This helps other elements (like shadows, sounds, "flashbacks") to create this thriller. Moreover, it's important not to lose anything of the shots, since it can produce the lost of the entire movie. At the end, it is quite confusing and not clear, but for those who are fonds of thrillers with some aspects of horror movies, this is not a bad option.
